Today we went hiking as a family in Corrganville. It's a local hiking spot that is stunning and also holds a lot of history as one of the first Western Movie Ranches in the 1940's. Over 3,500 movies, commercials and TV shows were filled there. And then it was a amusement park in the 50's and 60's. Sadly fires in the 70's destroyed all the building and only fountains still stand. However the Parks and Boy Scouts of Simi Valley have kept it up well and have posted historical facts around the trails and photo's of what it used to look like.
Daniel, Sienna and I enjoy a fairly easy 1.2 mile trail. It was fascinating and beautiful. I loved it so much and only wished my mom had been on the hike with us. Since she has seen many of the movies filmed here and visited the park when it was a Amusement Park. I would have loved to hear stories about it while we were hiking. However I have decided to come back with my mom, soon.
We stopped for a snack in the shade of a huge rock and enjoyed nature. Sienna loved seeing bunnies, lizards and bugs. We collected sticks, leaves and rocks. Sienna wanted to take home the whole place. hehe! We also were able to get a little geocaching in as well. Finding only one of seven that are in the area. However that just means we have to go back and find the others, looking forward to many family trips back to Corrganville.
Today was the first Saturday in over six weeks that we got to all be together as a family. We have been so busy the past month or so and really haven't had a weekend free for just us. It felt so good to sleep in and enjoy the day with the two people I love most in the world. After a lazy morning spent in PJ's we went out to lunch at The Munch Box, a place Daniel and I used to go to before we got married and moved away. But we made the drive out to the Valley to enjoy the best chili cheese burgers in the world! I'm not kidding, it is my favorite guilty pleasure, we almost never get to eat there anymore, but it's worth the calories.
As we turned to head back to the car, the sun came out. So our walk back was warm and cheery. I LOVED getting to take pictures during our little hike. It feels like it's been forever since I got to take photo's that I wanted to take. It's so freeing to be able to capture what i think is beautiful and have the time to just stop and wait for the light to hit a tree just right. Today was a good day, i really needed this time. The past week or so has been a little rough but after today, i feel refreshed and ready for whatever comes next. Thank you God for giving me peace and rest today!
