This is a project we used to do when i was a preschool teacher. You cut orange construction paper into pumpkin shapes and glue on a green steam. Then you and your child cut out fun shapes in yellow construction paper. Once your done cutting give your little one a glue stick and some black and yellow crayons and let them have fun "carving" or glueing their Jack O Lanterns. You can also put out some glitter to make them sparkle.
Sienna loved it and wanted to put them up right away to help decorate our house for Halloween. I have a feeling we will be making more of these fun pumpkins before Halloween. :) Try this easy, fun and cheap Halloween Project and let me know how you liked it!
We started out our day by learning about how pumpkins are grown, from farmer Jon. And learned that there are all kinds of pumpkins in many colors, shapes and sizes. After our time of learning we got to go on a tractor ride around the farm. I loved seeing the fields of sunflowers, while Sienna pointed out strawberries and raspberries. We sang songs about being on the farm and had a wonderful time. The tractor dropped us off in the pumpkin fields. With admission we each got to pick a "sugar baby" pumpkin. However Daniel and I let Sienna pick all three. Which she loved. She took her time investigating all kinds of pumpkins and decided on a medium size pumpkin, a small one and a little baby one. And when i asked her why she picked those three she said, she wanted to find a Daddy pumpkin, a Momma Pumpkin and a Sienna pumpkin. How cute is that? Super cute!
After walking in the pumpkin fields we went to see all the farm animals. Sienna loves to talk to animals and hold conversations with them. It's pretty funny to watch. While we were looking at the animals it began to sprinkle so we headed to the car and to lunch. Sienna was so happy to be going out on a special lunch date with Daddy. You would have thought it was her birthday they way she smiled, just knowing she got to have extra special time with her dad. We enjoyed a fun lunch at McDonald's then headed home for a much needed nap. Walking around a farm can sure tire you out.
After everyone had left from our little pumpkin party, Daniel and started work on our pumpkins. We really get into it and try to do different and harder things each year. This year i went out and bought a wood carving kit, which had some great tools to make carving a little easier. This year Daniel worked really hard on a three dimensional face and I worked on doing some intricate design work on my pumpkin. We also both carved traditional Jack O Lanterns. I so
enjoyed doing something a little different this year and learning that i can do some of the harder stuff. We have four really cool pumpkins that we are proud of. Too bad we won't get any trick or treater's where we live. We are thinking about taking over to my sisters house on Halloween so people can appreciate them hehe!So I want to encouarge all of you to get out there and look online and print some stencils and by some carving tools. Because it fun and not as hard as you would think. Plus you end up with some pretty awesome pumpkins.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
Last night we had my sister Dawn and her family over to carve pumpkins. Daniel and I love carving pumpkins and have a great time doing it. So we thought my nieces Kaitlin and Sarah would enjoy carving pumpkins with us. So we got a bunch of pumpkins and Sienna and I made a big batch of rice crispy treats. It was fun having them over, the girls got really into drawing on their pumpkins and then carving them. However Dawn did end up carving most of Kaitlin's out, but Sarah did a great job and stuck with it.
Sienna loved having the girls over they got to play together and Sienna got to paint a pumpkin while the big girls got to carve theirs. She was so happy to be a part of what everyone was doing. I hope that we can make this a family tradition, having people come over and carve pumpkins. It just made the time more fun and more special. So get out there and buy your pumpkins and get carving, because Halloween is tomorrow!
Yesterday Sienna's preschool class went on a field trip to Underwood Family Farms. First we enjoyed a tractor ride through the fields. Sienna loved looking at everything, she also enjoy singing "Old McDonald had a Farm" during the whole tractor ride. Once off the tractor we got to pick two pumpkins. Sienna loved picking them up and looking at each one. After we picked our pumpkins we walked around and looked at all kinds of farm animals, Sienna just loved telling me the name of each animal and what sound they make. At one point she was "mooing" at a cow and I asked her what was she doing. You know what she told me? "Mommy, I talking to the cow." She is just too cute. Sienna's favorite thing we did that day was getting to ride on the horsies. She was such a big girl riding the pony with out mommy with her. It was hard for me to just stand behind the gate and watch, but she didn't need me. She loved petting the pony and smiled so big for the entire ride. On our way out of the farm Sienna noticed a pile of GIANT pumpkins, I'm not joking about the giant part, these things were at least three to four feet tall and wieghing in at at least a hundred pounds. Well she desided she wanted to take one home with her. She wraped her arms around one and said, "Mommy, we take home!" with the biggest grin on her face. It was hard to say no too. I had to tell her that we wouldn't be able to get the big pumpkin to fit into mommies little car. I told her that I could take pictures of her with it to show daddy, which made her happy.
We had a great time, i love going to the pumpikin patch. When I was a teach we always took our class to the pumpkin patch in October. It feels like fall now. I can't wait until Daniel and I take Sienna out to pick out pumpkins for us to carve. So much fun! Hope you are enjoying your fall day.
I just love October and everything that comes with it. The cooler weather, the smell of baking, my birthday and Halloween. I do not like the scary gory part of Halloween. What i love is carving pumpkins, giving candy to trick or treaters and dressing up. Tonight Daniel and I had a lot of fun carving pumpkins. Daniel hates cleaning the pumpkins, he doesn't like the slimy part. So Sienna and I had fun scooping out the seeds scraping the insides.
And then after Sienna went to bed we started carving up our awesome creations. It made me feel like a kid. Daniel thought it was funny how excited I got over getting to make Jack-O-Lanterns, but I don't care. There are so few things in life that we can get excited about, and pumpkins make me smile, so I will smile! Hope you carve up some pumpkins of your own! Happy Halloween!
