Today while walking 3rd Street here in Santa Monica i was amazed at the number of taxi cabs. Never in all my life living near Los Angeles have i seen more the one taxi cab at a time. The streets were full of them here. I got this shot while crossing the street. I like the angle and the repetition of taxi's. I also enjoy the fact that if you didn't know this was in LA you would think this was taken in New York City. It's also one of the few photo of the day's that is in color. I am partial to black and white and shoot most of my artistic stuff in BW. But i like this in color, shows off the cabs as they should be.
This is 45 of our staff and teens, I took an additional 17 photo's tonight, that i will put up next week. The concept is for this wall to grow. That any teen that visits gets their photo added to the wall. Because once you've been to Canvas your part of our family.
So if you have a youth group or college group try this Photo Project, it's not expensive, just the cost of getting the pictures printed, and Costco has great prices. Plus you will make each teen feel special and excepted. Which is how we all want to feel right? So try it in your youth center and let me know how it works!
For our "God is a consuming fire." Hebrews 12:29
For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God. Deuteronomy 4:24
This is the sunset i saw tonight. It's stunning with it's bright colors, the sad thing is the colors come from the wild fires we are experiencing here in Southern California. Makes you wonder how can something so beautiful come from something so destructive?
Then these verses came to my mind. How God is a all consuming fire, yet He is the most stunning thing in all the world. And then i read a article about how sometimes our hillsides need to burn in order to purify the ground and bring about new growth. And although it's destructive, it's a good thing. Now don't get me wrong, it's not ok for people's houses to burn down, that's horrible and sad. I'm just saying that fires only purpose isn't just destruction but purification.
Isn't that how God makes us grow? It seems that we have to walk through the fire to become the person God meant us to be. That we have to go through rough times or difficult situations to see what God's purpose for our lives is. I am feeling like i can look back at the past year and see that God had me walk through the fire for a purpose and that i am on the other side, stronger in my faith and closer to Him. I also see where God wants me to be. Although being tested and walking through the fire is hard, upsetting and a struggle. You end up on the other side the person who God meant you to be. Praise the Lord for His lessons and His plans.
Today I am reminded of one of my favorite sayings, "I would rather walk with God in the dark than go alone in the light. " Mary Gardiner Brainard. Spend some time talking to God today and praise Him for the fires you have had to walk through.
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Psalm 51:7
I love flowers. My mom always had a beautiful flower garden when i was growing up and now i have a love for any kind of flower. Today while at the mall this white rose stood out to me. I loved that it wasn't perfect, kind of like all of us humans. I think the exposed center of the rose gives it interest. It also reminded me of something my little sister would paint. All together it just called out to me to take a picture of it. And in the end i really enjoyed how it turned out. It just goes to show you that it's in the most unexpected places that you find beauty. NEver thought while waiting in line for a kids train ride i would find a stunning flower to photograph.
I love being in the mountains. It's just awe inspiring. I was so thankful that i had a little free time and was able to get some good photo's taken while up in such a beautiful place. I love being able to capture the little things when i am on a trip. It really helps me to remember the time spent there.
At one point during camp i got to spend about two hours alone, just me, God and my camera. I spent a lot of time praying and thinking. It was one of the most memorable moments of the week. The Lord truly gave me peace about my life and what He has planned for me. He touched my heart and healed much of the brokenness i have been experiencing. It was truly an encounter with my creator in the mist of His mighty creation. It is amazing what God can do with just a small amount of time. I hadn't planned to be alone sitting in the middle of no where, it just happened. God knew what He was doing and put me exactly where He wanted me to be. I left my little quite time with the Lord, refreshed, renewed and ready for what lie ahead of me when i got home from camp. It was exactly what my heart needed. I am so thankful for that complete alone time with my Savior.
“Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31
I took this photo while at a friends baby shower. I think it is so sweet to see, Daddy's hand, Mommy's hand, and big sister's hand all waiting for the new little one to arrive. It is photo's like these that make me proud to be a photographer. I hope that this photo will be a blessing to Crystal and Michael, when they look back on this time, while they were waiting for the daughter Moriah Rose to be born.
This weekend was our Youth Groups third Photo Scavenger Hunt. The kids love it and it's one of the most fun events we have during the year. This year we had our largest group ever with 20 teenagers and 6 adults! I was over whelmed with the planning such a big event for so many people. However it all got done and the kids loved it. I want to send out a big THANKS to Meghan, Mary, Matt, Sarah, and Daniel for helping me with this event. They helped me so much by driving teams and helping with the judging. Also this year we had a object scavenger hunt as well. The kids did great finding all the things they needed as well as taking tons of pictures! My team won third place out of five teams. Good job you guys! Daniel has all the photo's from each team, however I only have the photo's from my team. Sorry about that!
So here is the list of what they need to take photo's of their team doing. If you want to have a photo scavenger hunt night or have any question please as me about it. I have tones of information and would love to share it with you!

I have been slacking on posting "Photo of the Day". But I just loved this photo i took while out with my nieces yesterday. I love bright colors and photographing things that you wouldn't topically think to photograph. To anyone else these are just bottles of paint, and not very nice looking ones at that. But I saw stunning colors and the fun those paints have brought to many children's days. I love taking something ordinary and making it look extraordinary.
Make sure you take some time today to notice beauty in the smallest of places.
Orchids are a fascinating plant. The only bloom once a year and are very sensitive. Almost everyone i know has had an orchid and had it bloom once and then it dies. Bummertastic. But if taken care of just right, tended by a master guardian, then is flourishes. That reminds me of human life, how we need to be taken care of my a master guardian. How we need to be cherished, pruned, watered, and loved. God is the master, He created you! He knows what is best for you and how to make you flurish, and you know what? Sometimes that means getting pruned and that can be painful, but the beautiful blooms that come are worth it.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! 1 Corinthians 5:17
