"The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe." Proverbs 18:10
Through all that is going on in my life these past seven days, I have been reading through Proverbs and I read this verse today. I praise the Lord for being my strong tower, a place to run to for refuge. I hope this song brings this scripture to life for you.
Strong Tower By Kutless
When I wander through the desert
And I'm longing for my home
All my dreams have gone astray
When I'm stranded in the valley
And I'm tired and all alone
It seems like I've lost my way
I go running to your mountain
Where your mercy sets me free
[chorus]
You are my strong tower
Shelter over me
Beautiful and mighty
Everlasting King
You are my strong tower
Fortress when I'm weak
Your name is true and holy
And Your face is all I seek
In the middle of my darkness
In the midst of all my fear
You're my refuge and my hope
When the storm of life is raging
And the thunder's all I hear
You speak softly to my soul
Tonight I got to see a awesome local Christian band called Anvue. They are a super hip group the sounds like a cross between Indie and a throw back to the 40's. The lead singer Sarah, has a beautiful velvet voice that just calls you to listen. They sound so new and different, like a breath of fresh air. I had taken my youth group to a local Christian clothing store, ... Found, and one of the owns (Lisa) who was there told me about the band Anvue and that the lead singer was her daughter, and they just happen to be playing at a coffee shop tonight. So we just had to go. I was amazed at how good they were and how much i enjoyed listening to them. They fit perfect in the little coffee house, easy listening while sipping a good cup of coffee. I enjoyed their music so much, that when i got home i just had to go to their website and listen to more of their music. I love being able to support Christians in our communtiy and tonight was a double duty night, with buying a t-shirt from a new Christian clothing store and going and listening to a local Christian band. So if you have time please check out both of them ... Found and Anvue. It's worth it!

Today has been one crazy day. My Sunday's tend to be that way anyways, but i had a million things to get done and a lot less time to get them done in. But I did it get done and had time to pick up Jessica and Aimee and take them to a local Christan clothing company called Not of this World. They are awesome you need to check them out! I bought a really awesome watch. After a fun time at the mall, we headed on over to youth group.
This week was the third part to my series on being inspired by Christian music. I based my lesson on the song "I Dare you to Move" by Switchfoot. I dared the kids to be the person God wants them to be. I taught about what it means to be a follower of Christ. We also talked a lot about changing the way we act and we were all challenged to have every part of our lives point to Christ from the way we talk, the way look, the way we act, who we hang out with and the places we go. We went over these verses:
*Philippians 1:5-7
*Matthew 4:19
*Matthew 9:9
*Matthew 12:2
*Matthew 28:19
*Hebrews 12:1-3
Hebrews 11:1
Tonight I started a new series based on Christian music. I took the song "This is Your Life" by Switchfoot and based my lesson around it. I thought it was pretty cool. The Lord has been leading me to do something like this for a while. But I hadn't found the right songs, or I might not have been listening well enough. Before the lesson I had the kids do a "Faith Walk" game. Where they all paired up and one person on each team was blind folded and they had to retrieve yellow cards all around the church property and make it to the youth room. It was a really good test in listening, also in being a leader or a follower, and last, putting your faith in something you can't see. I really think the kids got a lot out of that exercise.
After the lesson we celebrated Mackenzie's 17th birthday and had a little frosting fight. But no one was harmed in all the melee. It was a very powerful night and I think the kids really got something from it. Next week I will be picking a new song, so keep an ear out. You never know how the Lord will speak to you, it might just be through music.
